It’s been awhile not only since I’ve posted, but also since I’ve done one of my seasonal updates. So here is winter 2016’s! So much has happened in the past few months that I figured I would share an update with everyone. From birthdays to new jobs to grad school to general life updates, there’s plenty to write about (AKA plenty of ways I can avoid working or reading for school). I’m also excited to add in a couple new categories moving forward: ‘excited about’ and ‘eating,’ because this girl loves food.
LOVING: These warmer days in North Carolina. We’ve been going hiking a lot recently, as well as spending time in the backyard, opening up the windows, etc. I’m also loving waking up early, something I never thought I would hear myself say (or see myself type). I’ve been getting up at 5am every morning to work early, following by getting homework/studying/reading done during the day, working out in the afternoons, and relaxing in the evenings. Not a bad life.
READING: If you follow me on Goodreads, you probably already saw that my reading goal for 2017 is 12 books. Compared to two years ago, this feels so low.
As far as my progress… I’ve already read two this month, “All the Ugly and Beautiful Things” by Bryn Greenwood which was SO good, and “The Woman in Cabin 10” by Ruth Ware. I couldn’t put Greenwood’s novel down from the moment I read the first page. It was incredible. It makes you think, pause, reflect, feel disgusted, feel moved…all of the above. Highly recommended. Ware’s book was a solid 3.5/5 stars for me, mostly because it was too easy to compare to books like “Gone Girl.” I was also because I was disappointed with the lack the villain’s presence. It almost seemed like an afterthought.
WATCHING: The Affair, as always. I’m forever in a love/hate state of emotions with the characters. I love Allison’s development. I have a crush on Cole (why is he so romantic even if he’s not making the right decisions?). Helen lights up the screen for me, and Noah is just…Noah. We are also rewatching “The Following.” (I talked about that here, here, here, here and here…omg *insert embarrassed monkey emoji*.)
ANTICIPATING: Meh. Things I will talk about later. We do have a visit to Charleston soon though!
PLANNING: Out my calendar for months in advance. Between school, work, and two kids, the days fill up rather quickly. My Day Designer planner is a godsend. No idea how I would function without it.
WORKING ON: Staying ahead of the game in terms of everything I have on my plate. When you decide to take a break from school they don’t tell you how insanely hard it is to get back into the swing of things. Fortunately, I have a top-notch husband, a flexible, incredible work-from-home job, and some (mostly) well behaved kids.
WISHING: I’m wishing for warm weather. My husband says I do this every year. NOT hot weather (NC can be brutal), but those spring days before the pollen tries to kill me are pretty wonderful. I also miss going for walks and hiking more than we have been and grilling out all the time. I can’t wait to have friends over for bonfires and go to the parks in Raleigh and…all of it.
EXCITED ABOUT: Making a birthday cake this weekend for our babies whose birthday party has to be rescheduled (Leo has the flu). But that won’t stop me from baking, and it certainly won’t stop us from devouring it.
EATING: This. With homemade whipped coconut cream as frosting. It ruined my Whole30, and I’m not even mad about it.
