It’s been awhile since I wrote one of these, so I figured I would share some updates about what I’ve been up to lately. July 2016 has been incredible so far, complete with an Independence Day trip to the beach with friends, good news, and quality time with my incredible family.
July 2016 so far:
LOVING: This change in season–the one in my life, not the one that is related to weather (though really, is it fall yet?). I feel like things I’ve worked hard for and waited for for so long are finally coming to light. I feel motivated. I feel loved by my family and friends. I just feel happy. It’s one of the best things in the world to get to a place where you finally feel comfortable and own up to your experiences, good and bad.
READING: Oh man. A lot. I finally finished editing the most recent book assigned to me by the publishing company I work with. (It’s a good one. Can’t wait to announce when it’s released.) Last month I devoured Dare Me by Megan Abbott in less than two days. I thought it would be cheesy or overly dramatic, but it was delicious. I’d give it 4/5 stars. Last night I started Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight, and I’m also listening to Dave Ramsey’s The Total Money Makeover on audiobook. I read this one a couple years ago, but I need a refresher, and Dom is listening to it on audio too. Next on my list after these is Pathways to Joy: The Master Vivekananda on the Four Yoga Paths to God by Swami Vivekananda. My yoga teacher recommended this to me and I lucked out and got it from my studio’s lending library.
WATCHING: Bloodline on Netflix. I got this recommendation from a How Sweet It Is Tuesday Things post. We finished the first season and oh.my.god. It starts off slow and you just have to go into it knowing it gets better so you don’t give up on it. When you make it through the first few episodes it’s incredible. We love the storyline and now we’re an episode or two (maybe three) into season 2. Anyone else watch this?
ANTICIPATING: I feel like this one is obvious. Yesterday, during a meeting with one of the yoga teachers at my yoga studio, I was accepted to Embrace’s 2017 yoga teacher training program. I am SO excited. It starts January 28th, 2017, and I can’t express how many times I told her that I wish it started tomorrow. I’ve wanted this for years and as dramatic and cliche as it sounds, I’ve been wishing for this for years. It feels like a dream come true. (Cue eye roll here.)
LISTENING TO: Some oldies, some goodies. A lot of Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, and for whatever reason I’ve been listening to “A Sorta Fairytale” by Tori Amos quite a bit. It reminds me of Dom. Also listening to Bon Iver pretty frequently, mostly when I’m practicing yoga.
PLANNING: The next few months. I’m preparing for YTT, Dom is finishing school in the next couple months, and I’m sure there will be a lot going on otherwise.
WORKING ON: My blog. I’m finally starting to follow my own rules and better optimize my posts, but that means I need to go back and adjust all past posts. I also need to set up Google Analytics. Anyone have tips on this?
WEARING: A lot of leggings. Duh. I swear July 2016 has been the hottest July we’ve been here so far, so no clue why, but my house is frigid (on purpose) so it works. I’m recently obsessed with Old Navy’s activewear line. I read something forever ago comparing their pants to Lululemon and I’m not sure how true that is, but they are pretty great. I also love that they are somewhat high waisted. Perfect for my fellow c-section mamas. I’ve also been living in some loose, boxy J. Crew shirts paired with my demin Target shorts or my Madewell jeans.
WISHING: I never want to wish away time, but I’m so excited for YTT. Then again, it also makes me sad. Leo will be a little over one when I start, and I want him to stay my tiny chunk of a baby boy forever. I love this stage with him and it makes me so sad to think of it passing so quickly. He’s the happiest, sweetest baby boy of all time. He makes me want 50 more.
July 2016 has been a beautiful month so far. I’m so curious as to how the next six months of this year will go. Why does it all fly by so fast?
