starter home upgrades: inside our house

While this post won’t be super in depth, we recently had some professional photos taken of our home (for reasons that are no longer necessary) and I thought I would share. They really made us fall in love with our home all over again. They show a lot of the starter home upgrades we’ve made and what we have left to do.

Fun fact: Our 2.5-year-old took this!

We’ve spent the last 5+ years decorating and transforming this–our first–home.

We’ve gone from owning solely hand-me-down furniture to amateur attempts at refinishing yard sale finds.

We’ve started imagining and completing projects we are proud of to really discovering our style (which I’ll call midcentury modern with a bright, rustic twist).

I’ve been looking a lot recently at starter home upgrades on Pinterest, Houzz, etc. and I’m so excited for what we hope to do to our home in the future.

Starter home upgrades – our ideas:

We may not get to do all of these, but here’s what we’ve been dreaming of:

  • Front wood shingles
  • Stained flower box with drapey, lush greenery
  • DIY midcentury modern sofa table
  • New lighting
  • Some updates to Isla’s bedroom
  • Granite (for now, a girl can dream)
  • Rustic wood-like tile floors in the kitchen
  • Exterior upgrades–fire pit, lower-level deck

We still have many changes to make, two rooms to paint, brainstorming sessions to be had, and many visions to achieve, but I’m so proud of how far we’ve come.

Very cozy looking! I don’t know if the minimalism look is intentional, but it works in your space.

Thanks! I try to limit our clutter, but I’ve never heard of anyone describing our place as having a minimalism look. Definitely not mad about it! 🙂

What a cute home! Really lovely for a starter home. Nice decor and I love the wall color.

Thank you! It’s actually wood planks. 🙂 I wish we had exposed brick! Maybe in our next home…
